Instructions to authors
For general instructions on how to submit a new manuscript, see Submissions.
Lines of the text should be continuously numbered (in MS Word, select 'Layout', 'Line numbers' and 'Continuous'). Figures, tables and appendixes with their captions should be placed after References. All supplementary material (tables and figures) should be presented in appendices.
When returning a revised manuscript
- Please follow our manuscript formatting Instructions in detail.
- Use short file names which include the article ID number.
- Send the manuscript text, including the body text, tables and figure captions, as a MSWord .doc or .rtf file, with comments removed and all tracked changes accepted. Send the figures as separate files.
If your manuscript includes figures or statistical analyses, see their specific instructions behind the links.
Zoa Essentia
Zoa Essentia articles are synthesis works that, based on existing data and literature, produce novel summaries of any zoological topic within the journal’s scope. For more information, see here.
Ethical compliance: When relevant, details of animal experimentation permission, or its equivalent along with the name of the institution that granted permission for the study should be given in the paper. We also recommend that the authors familiarise themselves with e.g., "Guidelines for the treatment of animals in behavioural research and teaching" (Animal Behaviour 83: 301–309), and AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals.
Proofs
The corresponding author will receive proofs (PDF) of the article by e-mail. Errors caused by editorial or linguistic alterations will be corrected free of charge. Other errors, especially if their correction affects the layout, may be corrected for a fee. We do not assume responsibility for misinterpretation of illegibly marked corrections. Annotated PDF file should be returned to the Editorial Office exclusively by e-mail. Errors found after the proofs have been returned may not be corrected.
