Annales Zoologici Fennici publishes
- original question-driven research reports focusing on all groups of wild animals in both aquatic and terrestrial environments,
- taxonomic and systematic papers of insects and other terrestrial arthropods as handled by a subject editor,
- zoological method descriptions, meta-analyses and invited reviews, and
- literature-based synthesizing Zoa Essentia articles.
We particularly welcome manuscripts that employ tools and theory from:
- ecology, invasion biology, conservation biology and wildlife management, including game and fisheries related works,
- animal behaviour, evolutionary ecology and mechanistic community ecology,
- molecular ecology, genomics and evolution, including eDNA works,
- ecophysiology, anatomomy, morphology and immunological ecology,
- paleoecology, phylogeography and paleontology.
We discourage descriptive papers with limited geographic focus unless highly significant for conservation or high novelty value for poorly known animal groups. We do not publish faunistic notes (new occurrences of known species), papers with full focus on parasitology, ecotoxicology or community ecology, papers that focus on non-native, captive domestic animals or animals that are classified as pests or any papers that technically repeat studies with limited novelty value. In unclear cases, you may contact the journal office for enquiries prior to submission.
